LPA Photographers / Nick David / The Big Cloth

LPA PhotographerNick David has been busy working in collaboration with videographer Jack Flynn on a project exploring the heritage, people and processes involved in the production of Harris Tweed. Harris Tweed is tweed made from pure wool dyed, spun and woven specifically in the Outer Hebrides and trademarked with the Harris Tweed Orb and Maltese Cross. The unique cloth plays a big part in the islands' cultural heritage is regarded passionately by those who make and sell it.

Commissioned by the Harris Tweed Authority and working on location on the island of Lewis and Harris, Nick shot both film and stills for the project. It follows the intricate production process behind Harris Tweed and features the voices of the makers, from the weavers, dyers and blenders to the cloth finishers and stampers. We love the level of detail in this work and how it perfectly captures the unique history and method behind the product.
