LPA Futures / Will Hartley / Spring Break / Miami
Will Hartley has been continuing his documentation of the 'Spring Break' phenomenon, this time travelling to Miami! Following on from the success of Spring Break which Will shot in Cancun, Mexico, he has travelled back to see how the event differs in other locations.
Talking about the project and how this year was different he says;
"Miami was much easier for access than Spring Break in Cancun, where the majority of the time I had to pay to get into a party. In Miami the Spring Breakers headed to South Beach where there was a free party every day, different groups walked around with speakers on their shoulders forming circles with guys and girls dancing, twerking, drinking and smoking.
At night time they would head onto Ocean Drive where fast cars rev up and down and Spring Breakers dance in the street. There is a police presence all the time but they leave them alone for the most part only stepping in when really necessary."
We love how Will's images capture the full story of Spring Break, capturing both images of the pool parties and all the action, but also more sensitive quieter moments.
We are delighted to say that the the first image in this blog has already been shortlisted for a Palm Photo Prize! This offers a huge array of prizes and is judged by experts in the industry, such as;
- Karen McQuaid – Senior Curator at The Photographers Gallery
- Joshua Coon – Director, Content Marketing & Production at Kodak
- Jack Harries – Editor at The Heavy Collective
- Andrea Kurland – Editor in Chief at Huck Magazine
There will be a special exhibition at the House of Vans in London this evening and running to the 3rd June 2018. Head down to take a look yourself!
