Culture Corner/Southbank & Nelson Mandela Centenary Exhibition
Culture Corner is a regular feature on the LPA blog, showcasing our recent forays into the exciting cultural scene London has to offer. This month the LPA team headed to Southbank Centre to visit the Nelson Mandela Centenary Exhibition, and sample the street food and other attractions there!
The exhibition celebrates 100 years since Mandela's birth and is a retrospective of the iconic leader's life, career and commitment to equality and justice. It explores Mandela's life including his early years, his time studying Law , his part in the African National Congress party, life on the run and political trials, his 27 years in prison, his unwavering and tireless struggle to end apartheid throughout it all and ultimately his death. Showcasing photographs and artefacts, plus film footage of Mandela's speeches and first hand accounts of people that knew and worked with him, the exhibition is extremely inspirational. It's a fantastic insight into the life of a truly magnanimous man and his incredible journey from young freedom fighter to the motivation for an international movement against a violent and oppressive apartheid system.
While visiting the exhibition, the LPA team also met up with some of our lovely photographers and stylists who helped us explore the South Bank! We visited the Roof Garden Bar, checked out the Beach and the Skate Park and sampled some amazing street food courtesy of the Wahaca truck, whilst sitting by the Thames. And all just a quick stroll over the bridge from the LPA HQ in Covent Garden.
