LPA / Andy Pilsbury / GRAIN Photobook Bursary / The Flesh & The Fantasy
Earlier this year Andy Pilsbury was awarded the GRAIN photobook Bursary in order to create a dummy photobook about a subject of his choosing.
After months of hard work, ‘The Flesh & the Fantasy’ is now complete and looking amazing! The book consists of five stories connected by the export of American culture and its manifestation by outsiders in the UK. In his own words Andy describes the book as:
‘Interwoven with dreams and reality, or flesh and fantasy, I present a multi layered narrative of symbolism, ideology and culture that journey through different genres and iconic subcultures commenting on both historic and contemporary themes.’
Andy goes on to explain that with the American Dream becoming toxic and corroded in the USA, he’s always been interested in its continuing appeal to people living outside America, who embrace the clichés and stereotypes.
Design studio Wild Ilk designed the book, and it was printed by Team Impression in Leeds!
Fantastic work Andy!
