Andrea Zvadova has won numerous awards for her photography recently, not least LPA Futures! Last week her images was recognised by Vogue Italia as part of competition the magazine ran with Gucci Beauty.

Entitled ‘The Gucci Beauty Glitch’ and concentrating on the theme of ‘unconventional beauty’, over 6000 photographs were submitted via the #theguccibeautyglitch on instagram. The idea of the project was to tackle the beauty industry’s traditional view of beauty, which Vogue states is a highly conservative… and standardised ideal of perfection that is hardly attainable.

With this project ‘Gucci is offering a new perspective: beauty does not equal symmetry, harmony or conforming to socially constructed beauty standards but lies in authentic self-expression, in the courage to feel at ease in one’s skin, in the freedom to celebrate one’s uniqueness and to define oneself autonomously.’

Vogue Italia goes on to say that Gucci’s Beauty want the beauty standards to be rewritten to ‘make room for diversity, the charm of imperfection, which reveals itself in all it’s distinctive magnificence that is the unique trademark of each individual.’
